The human diet has incorporated the soybean for over 5,000 years with the soybean widely cultivated in Asian countries for centuries. Its widespread use in the United States is a fairly recent phenomenon. Because its use in Asian countries is so widespread, the population there has provided researchers with a broad base from which to draw observations of soys long-term contributions to good health.

Soy has long been used for many health benefits. Over the past 20 years numerous clinical studies have confirmed its benefits particularly in reducing the risk of heart disease. Beginning in October 1999, the Food and Drug Administration approved allowing soy manufacturers to make the claim that eating soy as part of a low fat, low cholesterol diet may reduce the risk of heart disease.

The primary benefit of soy comes from its isoflavone content. Isoflavones are antioxidants that combat damage caused by free radicals. In one study soy isoflavones reduced total cholesterol over 9% and LDL (bad) cholesterol almost 13%. The level of HDL (good) cholesterol increased over 2%. If you are battling high cholesterol, soy protein may provide necessary support to lower cholesterol.

Because of its phytoestrogen content, soy is also believed to provide relief for symptoms of menopause. Phytoestrogens mimic the female hormone estrogen. In studies where participants included 20 grams of soy daily for 6 weeks, symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats were reduced.

Early indications also point to soy proteins benefit in preventing osteoporosis by increasing bone mineral density. With a diet high in soy, post-menopausal Japanese women have higher bone mineral density than women with low soy protein intake. Other studies suggest women approaching menopause who increase their soy protein intake see greater bone density than those with diets low in soy.

Our soy protein contains 20 grams of protein per serving.
